Working conditions are a little more vibrant at Duro Art Industries thanks to a three-year contract ratified by Teamsters Local 743 members in February.
“Teamsters have been making the highest quality art supplies in the world at Duro Art for nearly 50 years,” said Donnie Von Moore, President of Local 743. “With so many tools, gadgets and hardware coming into this country labeled ‘Made in China,’ it’s reassuring to know there are still unique artistic materials being made right here in Chicago.”
Members at Duro Art manufacture an extensive line of art supplies, from a multitude of canvas to oils and paints, stencils, stamps and brushes. Their work and the company’s artistic legacy will continue under the new agreement, overwhelmingly ratified by the Local 743 bargaining unit. Workers will receive two percent wage increases annually over the next three years and maintain company contributions to the Central States Pension Fund.
Duro’s art supplies are available at stores throughout the Chicago region, including all Hobby Lobby and Do It Best Hardware outlets. The company has been getting renewed attention in recent months for the invention of its latest product, Stick-On Canvas. The traditional artistic canvas incorporates a new repositionable adhesive to immediately mount original artwork on walls and all types of glass and metal surfaces.
