Local 743 Finalizes Contracts at Area Rehab Centers
Updated On: Apr 01, 2013

Teamsters Local 743 members ratified new contracts at two area nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in Chicago and Gary, Ind. this February.

Approximately 50 Teamsters serving Indiana’s South Shore Terrace Health and Rehab Center have finalized an agreement for the next three years. The contract provides substantial wage increases immediately in the first year and additional raises during each consecutive year.

In Chicago, more than 80 members have approved a four-year agreement at Belhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. An overwhelmingly majority ratified the contract, which includes new wages for all four years, benefits with Local 743’s own Health and Welfare Plan and limited employee contributions to a strong severance plan.

“Nursing homes and health care centers make up the backbone of Local 743 and guaranteeing these long-term contracts for our members is of the utmost importance,” said Debra Simmons-Peterson, Local 743 Secretary-Treasurer. “Teamster members and supporters mustn’t forget our family extends far beyond the Chicago city limits and includes some of our hardest working members in Gary and northwest Indiana.”

Teamsters Local 743 represents more than 11,000 hardworking men and women in health care, warehouse, clerical, mail-order and professional industries throughout the Chicago metropolitan area.
