Teamsters Local 743 Schedules Rally At Midwest Folding Products.

Union to protest the company's refusal to respond to bargaining proposals in light of closure notification.

CHICAGO, IL -- Teamsters Local 743 will be holding a rally on Tuesday, July 1, 2014  from 2:30 – 3:15 p.m. at the Midwest Folding Products Company, 1414 S. Western Avenue, Chicago, IL  60608.

Midwest Folding Products is a division of HNI, a publicly-held corporation which is headquartered in Muscatine, Iowa. The Chicago facility has been in operation since 1947 and is located in the Western/Ogden Manufacturing corridor.

On June 25, Midwest Folding Products notified Local 743 and its 76 union employees that the Company will shut down operations on October 31, 2014, and move production to their facility in Texas.

At the rally, Local 743 will protest the planned closing and the Company’s refusal to respond to the proposals made in bargaining resulting from the notification of closure.

"The Teamsters who work at this company have an average seniority of over twenty-two years," says Local 743 President Debra-Simmons-Peterson. "They've made high-quality folding tables mainly used in school cafeterias, including our City’s public schools."
